Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be gambled on in casinos around the globe, or alternatively at your house on your personal computer, through a web connection. The rules are absolutely simple and involve the player trying to get the highest combination of cards possible in order to win cash. In this respect it’s much the same as a normal game of poker, apart from the interaction with any other players. Of course, methods used in a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be useless here.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the bettor puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the video poker machine and presses the play button. A 5 card hand will be electronically ‘handed out’ on the video screen.

The Video Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and gamblers will need to now choose which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.

After the bettor has decided on which cards he or she wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be handed out if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the pay out schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the pay out schedule can range from game to game, so that experienced gamblers are able to select the most money-making game each time.

As soon as the first round has finished, the player can either choose to continue on and try to to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Further, some versions of the game allow the player a chance to increase their wins, in which situation a further round is played. There are also differences between specific machines, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying elements to enhance playability.
