Video Poker is a favored game that usually will be played in casinos around the world, or in your house on your home computer, through a net connection. The rules are absolutely simple and consist of the player trying to get the best combination of cards achievable in order to acquire cash. In this respect it’s much the same as a regular game of poker, minus the interaction with any other players. Of course, tactics employed during a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker begins when the bettor puts credits (whether it’s tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and pushes the play button. A five card hand will be "handed out" on the screen.

The Video Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and bettors should now pick which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the gambler has selected which cards he wishes to retain, they should press ‘deal’, which will mean that any new cards are needed they will be given out. The round is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the pay out schedule.

Normally, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payment schedule can change from game to game, so that experienced bettors are agile enough to choose the most profitable machine each and every instance.

After the first round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that they may have won. Additionally, several styles of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to double their winnings, in which case another game is played. There are also variations among individual games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing characteristics to increase playability.
